I did a teardown of a SMART UF-55 DLP Projector a while ago, and later I showed how to hack the ballast board so that the discharge lamp could be powered without the rest of the projector circuitry.
A few days ago, I found an old parallel port external harddrive case which was of the perfect size to fit the power supply board and the ballast board in. So now I’ve got a super bright light source. Here is a short video showing it in action:
