Recent rumors suggest that Apple might eventually move to Intel processors. This would be the third significant architectural changes for Apple for the past 25 years (from Motorola 6800s to IBM’s Power and now probably Intel).
As a developer, I certainly welcome Apple’s move. Unlike previous changes, this time Macintosh would start utilizing a processor architecture that is enjoyed by over 90 percent of the market. And the developer base is huge, we could certainly expect more developers jump onto the Mac wagon.
Of course, there are still a few uncertainties ahead. Will the Intel based Mac support the open peripheral market as do the majority of Wintel machines? Will Mac OS run un-modified on the existing non-Mac Wintel machines? Only time can tell…
